If you arrive for a
first visit, you will be greeted at the door by Sylvia and Evelyn (left),
two of our committee members. They will enter your name on the register and then send
you over to John, the Librarian.
You will be given a limited pack on your first (and second) visit containing the music for that evening, which you should return at the end of the session. There is no charge for your first visit, but for subsequent visits we charge £4 per reheasal. On your third visit you can then keep the folder. On subsequent visits you will be given any new music that we are doing that night, which you can keep in your folder. You will also be given a membership number by the committee members at the door.
The librarian will ask you how familiar with singing and whether you can read music. For ladies, he will also ask whether you sing soprano (high) or contralto (low). He will then, if possible, introduce you to Lynne, our Chair who will suggest where you sit. If appropriate, she will sit you near a more experience member who will be able to guide you.
Many members find it convenient to keep the music in plastic sleeves in a ring-binder. The Librarian, John Rostron, may well have a supply of spare plastic sleeves. He also has several brown ring-binders available, but not necessarily on every rehearsal. These binders should take almost all the music in the current repertoire.
If you give the Librarian your email address, then you will be sent a newsletter including a list of songs we will be doing on each rehearsal a few days in advance. You might find it more convenient to just bring these to rehearsals rather than the (rather bulky) full set.
Around Christmas we have a set of suitably Christmas music. These will be made available in the weeks before Christmas. We recommend that you keep these in a separate folder.
For concerts we ask that members use a special black folder with
the Hadleigh Voices logo on it (right).
These are available from Sylvia Thorne, one of our committee (above
left, on the right), on request.
We also ask that, for concerts, men should wear a red tie, a white
shirt and black trousers.
Women should wear a red rose, a black blouse or top and black trousers or skirt (left).
The ties and roses are available from Sylvia. There is a charge for all these items.
There is always a break each evening. You may like to bring a bottle of water for use during the rehearsal. Members decided that we should not serve tea, coffee or biscuits but you can bring your own.
